Guidelines and tools for the safety of vulnerable road users in India and Brazil

Increasing the level of safety of so-called vulnerable road users (cyclists and pedestrians) in emerging economies, such as India and Brazil, to reduce the number of deaths caused by road accidents. This is the objective of SaferBraIn, a project where the Ctl has coordinating role, together with other 11 subjects.

SaferBraIn was in charge of analyzing the main risk factors, through local databases on traffic accidents, with particular reference to cyclists and pedestrians.

The project has also developed methodologies and innovative tools to plan, design and maintain secure infrastructure in India and Brazil, considering the different socio-economical and cultural conditions. The survey was conducted through field inspections and consultations with users and local authorities to identify the needs of vulnerable subjects.

SaferBrain has implemented two pilot projects (in both countries) to verify the effectiveness and efficiency of the methodologies and innovative tools, training local staff (administrative, political), providing tools, software and support needed to improve safety projects road and to disseminate the guidelines to promote sustainable development of the safety of vulnerable road users in emerging economies.
