Safer Wheels

The CTL is the Safer Wheels project's italian partners, funded by the European Commission, which aims to study and understand the causes of road accidents with injuries and deaths involving motorcycles and bicycles throughout the EU, fundamental issue because of significant cost social accident rate which involves both categories.

The accidents involving vulnerable road users accounts for 46% of deaths from traffic accidents in the EU: one in four is a cyclist or a motorcycles user.

To achieve its goals, Safer Wheels will use the in-depth investigation, survey methodology and analysis of road accidents in which a team of specialized technicians collect directly at the accident site, detailed and anonymous information on road environment, users, involved vehicles and consequences. The methodology used, common in Europe, has been defined in the previous european project DaCoTA.

The Safer Wheels project will collect and analyse data from a total of 500 road accidents with injuries or deaths, involving at least one cyclist or a motorcycle. The sample will be representative of the whole EU and in Italy alone, CTL will collect and analyse 90 incidents.
