Irtad

The International Traffic Safety Data and Analysis Group or IRTAD Group is a permanent working group of the International Transport Forum (ITF). The group is made up of road safety experts from 35 countries and aims to be a forum for exchange and consolidation of various issues relating to road safety, such as: data collection systems, the trend of accidents and security policies.

The International Traffic Safety Data and Analysis Group or IRTAD Group is a permanent working group of the International Transport Forum (ITF). The group is made up of road safety experts from 35 countries and aims to be a forum for exchange and consolidation of various issues relating to road safety, such as: data collection systems, the trend of accidents and security policies.

IRTAD Group is also involved, both to help feed the international database on road safety called "International Road Traffic and Accident Database" (IRTAD), and to conduct analysis on particular issues related to road safety.

The Research Centre for Transport and Logistics (CTL) of "Sapienza" - University of Rome - is an official member of IRTAD since 2010 and participates in both the activities of the working group than to those of its thematic groups.

The CTL is responsible annually to produce the "National Statement" Italian. It is a summary report that describes: the status and evolution of road safety in Italy, the main features of the phenomenon in accidents, the costs of road accidents, the data collection system, user behavior, the strategy and national targets for road safety, recent policies implemented and ongoing research.

The National Statement of the various member states of IRTAD come together in the "Road Safety Annual Report", an annual general report on the state of security in the different member countries of IRTAD much appreciated internationally.

The CTL actively participates in the exchange of experiences, new road safety measures and methodologies. It also manages to respond for Italy to various surveys conducted under the IRTAD group of emerging issues and specific issues related to road safety research.

CTL has coordinated the Sub-Working Group Road Infrastructure Safety Management, which recently saw the publication of the research report. The Working Group was attended by experts from: Argentina, Austria, Colombia, Germany, Greece, Korea, Italy and South Africa.

The report provides tools and guidance for the management of road infrastructure safety. In general, the purpose of the study concerning the definition of the state of the existing support procedures for the management of road infrastructure safety, highlighting possible problems or obstacles that prevent its use and supporting the infrastructure manager to identify the most appropriate management practices for each stage of the infrastructure lifecycle, from planning to full operation.
