Naviki

A common platform for cycling

Naviki, whose name derives from the portmanteau of NAVIgator and WiKIpedia, is a navigator for cyclists developed in Germany by the University of Applied Sciences of Munster in 2011 and funded by the European Commission. It’s a navigator thought exclusively for cyclists that allows you to make routing requests by returning paths suitable for bicycles.

For each path provided, Naviki associates a series of very useful information, such as the elevation profile of the route, the estimated calories burned as well as an estimate of the costs saved, thanks to the use of the bicycle instead of the car, to make the route in question.

Naviki has a web 2.0 approach that allows users, by registering, to get their own account, through which they can store their bike paths and exchange them with the community of friends, even not cyclists. The pan-European navigation system also allows cyclists to post photos and comments for each path, (indicating, for example, the main features, such as the road surface).

The navigator is fully integrated with other existing social networks, such as Facebook, without being a duplicate.
