Ideas and experiences for transportation in areas of weak demand

The LIMIT4WEDA project - Light Mobility and Information Technologies FOR Weak Demand Areas (2010-2013) - was funded under the MED program of the European Commission, coordinated by the Lazio Region. The CTL has provided technical and scientific support, collaborating with AREMOL, implementing agency of the project on behalf of the Lazio Region.

LIMIT4WEDA has faced the problem of mobility in areas affected by weak demand for transport, characterized by inefficient public transport systems and a private car predominant use.

Different solutions have been studied, including: the adoption of more efficient transport technologies from the energy and environmental point of view (for example, electric vehicles), the greater spread of car-sharing services that allow the movement from the concept of owned vehicle to that of collaborative use and strategic urban planning to decrease the mobility needs and make sustainable transport modes safe and accessible.

LIMIT4WEDA concluded that it is necessary to support and integrate local public transport, making it more flexible and cost effective, through: the use of "gentle" and flexible mobility, info-mobility and intermodal transport of persons in conjunction with the use of new technologies and the awareness of decision makers.
