CATS

City Alternative Transport System

The CATS project was born from the objective of developing new types of innovative transportation that enable a more efficient mobility in the city.

In its first phase, the project was in charge of Cristal, a semi-automatic transport system based on two operating principles: the self-service of small urban vehicles made available for short rentals and the flexible shuttle. In the latter case, variable length trains of vehicles, guided by a professional driver, operating in fixed times on a permanent or variable path according to the different application contexts.

Applications of the system described in the cities of Strasbourg (France), Ploiesti (Romania) and Formello (Italy), were studied and produced citizens studies for the evaluation of integration of Cristal in transport-environmental and socio-economic terms.

In the second phase of the project, the practical application concerned the ARTS (Automated Road Transport Systems), which are fully automatic road transport systems that consist in automatic vehicles, dedicated infrastructure and control systems.
