Logistics as a lever for the internalisation of enterprises in Plan Export South of ICE

The ICE (Agency for the promotion abroad and the internationalization of Italian companies) has recently launched the South Export Plan for Convergence Regions (Prog. Prom. 079, line B.6), a Pilot Project to the Mediterranean. In this context, the CTL has provided support in two specific actions:

  • The development of logistics channels for export of flower products of Puglia;
  • Enabling new business traffic lo/lo and ro/ro from the ports of Messina and Milazzo, Sicily.

Regarding Puglia, the CTL has defined an organizational solution to develop the logistics of the Apulian horticultural sector to encourage international trade, specifically with Turkey. The organizational solution, derived from analysis of the logistics needs of the sector and the comparison with good international practices, is the implementation of a logistics platform consolidation and shipment of the sub-products - in this case, ornamental plants - controlled by companies of sector through a new company. The logistic model is a hub-to-hub, a hub for the collection and consolidation in Puglia and a distribution hub in Turkey.

Regarding Sicily, the specific objectives required the analysis of the market context in which they are located, the ports managed by the Port Authority of Messina and Milazzo, trying to identify the traffic that might be attracted to a reconfiguration of the port of Messina.
